I would be pleased to hear the Lebedev Concerto in one movement on an audition for college entrance. Old standbys include the Bach/Bell Air and Bouree or the Don Little arrangement of the Marcello Suite #1 in F. (Of course these thoughts are in addition to those already mentioned).

Play Bach's 2nd cello suite an octave down. Its not particularly impressive, and kind of boring actually, but if anything, it demonstrates facility and musicality in the low CC tuba range.

I was playing some solos last night, but I was using a Bb tuba or an F tuba, so I suppose they don't apply.

With that bit of snark out of the way, let me speculate that everyone who shows up will play something brilliant technically, but only a few will play something moving musically.

I would also speculate that the purpose of an conservatory audition is to demonstrate that you will be successful in their program and make them look good in later life, not that you are willing to play something slightly beyond your technique or range. Stay within yourself, and play musically, musically, musically. They will see it as their job to expand your technique, range, and musical breadth, but they'll want to know there is a musical brain in there to work with.

Not too bad, just a little technical in spots. Most decent players could easily sight read it. Playing a violin piece makes you more artistical and stuff.

This is some great advice. Who cares how technical something is if it doesn't sound good? What conservatories, and all universities, really, want is that at the end of your tenure at their institution, you are a marketable product. The easiest way to be a marketable musician is to sound good.

With that said, I would echo what TJ said. The Lebedev has some great musical moments, and is approachable on a bass or contrabass tuba.
