I had no idea that these were called Bolo Ties - just goes to show you never know what you will learn on TubeNet. I inherited some of these from my mothers cousin who was part native american. They are old - I'm not sure how old - sterling silver with real turquoise.
Is there a site you know of to get some idea of the age/value?
Well THAT'S a pleasant surprise!

Speaking as someone who rarely ties up, I have this possibly fallacious notion that different types may differ in their tightness, when properly adjusted. The common long tie has to be relatively tight if you want to present only the knot. A bow tie looks the same loose or tight, so you'd never pull it tight unless you had some reason to enjoy the feeling of light strangulation. My guess from just looking at them - we don't use them around here much - is that with the bolo, it kind of depends on how big the slide is?

Surprised to see button-down collars in the "how to wear" pics. I guess there's a lot I don't know about western wear.

That makes sense as the relative I inherited the Bolos from lived in Cotter, Arkansas (trout fishing capital of the world) on a bluff overlooking the White River. Really lovely area down there.the elephant wrote:These have always been popular in Texas and the Southwest to a niche group.
Now I just have to get my Dan Post boots out of the closet, get a shirt to wear with the Bolo and do my best Billy Crystal City Slickers imitation.
