$old - parts/repair BBb tuba

Post by Tabor »

An old tuba. It has a small marking: a harp in an oval) Surprisingly few dents or dings, slides are free & smooth. The bell was wrinkled up but I smoothed it out a little. Someone with a dent machine could do a nicer job.

Rotors are out. 3 rotors are in a box, one is just missing altogether. I haven't tried to do anything with the rotors, so I don't know how they are. If they are like the slides, they are great. If not, they're not.

.830 bore by my dial calipers! This is the same bore as the Russian ones and some Amati/Cerveny. It looks more like the European ones to me, especially noting the adjustable clock springs on the paddle assembly. I'm pretty sure it could turn into a nice tuba for some money.

Getting out of the business, or just running out of room?

Well, if I'm in business, I'm a terrible businessman.

I'm mostly just trying to clean up, move things out that are just serving as resting places for other things I'm not using & probably won't use, but also focus on the types of projects I enjoy or that will help me learn something.

I'd bet that's an old St Pete. Buy a complete new rotor/housing assembly from The Tube Exchange to replace the 4th and have yourself a descent tuba for well under a grand.

And that hard case fits it pretty well, too.
