Recently, I had been on vacation with a friend and we went to visit her uncle. He had this conn eb tuba sitting on his piano. I played it for him and he decided to give it to me. I took it home, sprayed it off with the hose, oiled the valves, and greased up the slides. It plays pretty darn good, and has a really sweet sound, compared to my Meinl Weston 2141. My question is, what model is this horn? I can't find anything on it, besides it being made around 1911-1914, I'm not sure of anything else about this horn. Any thoughts?

Re: Conn eb tuba iddentification
I'm not positive on dimensions, I'll check when I get home. Definitely looks like one of those monsters. The scale is pretty darn good. The only trouble some note, intonation wise is first ledger line eb, below the staff. I was playing it with an LM6 though, and some generic BBb mouthpiece it came with. When I get home, I'm going to try it with something a little more shallow and see how it like that.

Re: Conn eb tuba iddentification
My avatar is a 1914 model that's pretty similar to the one on the right. I've had it about 4 years. It has a very nice tone and projects well. It does have its quirks, but as my lip improves, it gets more "playable".

Re: Conn Monster Eb
Does anyone know who would be able to do a like-new restoration for this tuba? It's in such nice condition, I'd love to get it looking even better. The fact that all the hardware is original doesn't hurt either.

Re: Conn Monster Eb
Lee Stofer would do a nice job restoring this horn.

Re: Conn Monster Eb
Ed Strege at Badger has one all fixed up, has been listed on eBay for quite a spell.
