For Sale-Conn Grand Jumbo Sousaphone 1927 Sold

Post by TUBUD »

This horn is in great shape considering it's almost 90 years old. It had gold trim at one time but has faded over the years. It plays great. I used it for a dixieland gig and was told by the other guys in the group it sounded real nice. I tried to take pictures at every angle. The valves in the picture were turned worst side up to show wear. Some plating has worn thin on the inside of the bell and is hard to see when polished. I have played professionally for over 40 years and think it would serve someone well. I'm selling it because either it's too heavy or I'm too old. It does have a homemade case who's only function is storage. I'm asking $3500.00 Local pick up only. The instrument is located in Huntington, WV. 25701.http://imgur.com/a/fAzHy" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

I 've had it for about a year. I don't think it's ever been overhauled. I believe this was used mostly by an individual and not a school.

Great looking horn. Any idea of what the 'EGYPT' stamped into the bell tenon means? The ordering code word for these horns according to the 1927 Conn catalog is 'KEROS'.

The catalog price list for the Grand Jumbo in 1927 was $580 cash and $609 if one used the Conn payment plan.

Gorgeous!

It looks to me like all of the top loops off the valves are slides. Is that standard on the Conn jumbos?

It's a nice feature.

Using this trusty inflation calculator, that $580 is about $7,900 today.
