I can see where 1st valve top slide can be easily (somewhat) re-arranged so that you could reach under the top bow to move it, rather than reach over it. That would probably help your left arm situation a bit (I often have this same problem, and strive to have my horns laid out in a similar fashion). You'd lose a little pull on the 1st valve slide, but you'd also get the side benefit of reaching the 3rd valve slide, and, if you are going to re-route the 4th, that one too.
If it plays anything like the York 7×× series horns (which it seems to be patterned after - bell profile & large branches), I'd say you are onto something....(BTW, the sound you describe is very similar to my 712).

Drool. If I get a stencil set and spray paint "Kuruth" on my rotary Neptune, would you trade?
We have two Holton 345 CC tubas in the S.F. Bay Area, and I LOVE the sound of both of them (also great players, of course).
