Gronitz PCK 6/4

Post by tuba.luke95 »

Hello all!
I'm looking to try out some new horns for potential purchase. One I'm looking at is the PCK 6/4 horn. How does it sound? What's the high and low register like? How does it flow through the registers? Everything about it please! And does anyone know where you can try one out as well? It'd be great to see how it compared to my current horn (PT-6P).
Thanks everyone!

I played on one for a year and thought it was a very fine instrument. About the same footprint as the 6450 if I were to hazard a guess. A PT-50L worked well on that given example, but I'm sure your mileage will vary.

The cash register had a very "velvety" quality to it. I didn't have any response issues to speak of with the 4th valve vs other (123) combinations on that example. Low register response was FAST. Had 5450/1293 response in the low register, a little different than those on some levels I suppose, but at least comparable from my memory. Intonation was pretty standard with 4th slide pulls in the low register, and 1st valve pulls on a couple of combinations in the staff, but nothing that stood out as "whoa".

This example didn't blow as well above the staff as I would have liked. Slots seemed narrow. Could've just been me though.

Nice tuba. A dent magnet if there ever was one, but a nice tuba. I think the Horn Guys has one in stock. Wouldn't want to speak for them, but I'd bet they'd be happy to give you some info on that tuba. I recently purchased a tuba from them. Steve and his staff were top notch.
