I really wanted to like them, and kept trying for a while. I pre-bought one of the stainless steel ones (#5), sold it, bought another one, sold it. Maybe did that a third time. It just seems intuitively like a better idea than the reality turned out to be for me. I did much the same with Monettes earlier.

Not to dovetail into another topic too badly, but as a performance major in a competitive school environment, my use of the Deck 3F coincided with growing fears I might have F.D.

After a while of fretting over shaky attacks and unstable tone, I switched back to a more moderate sized mouthpiece and the symptoms abated.

I'm sure the Deck has its proponents, as well - I would buy mine back, no question. But it is very large.

IF so, I'd be in for at least a Deck 3 - 33.5mm

The Tilz WH-B2 that I just sold had an 8.9 mm throat and very large bowl cup. I've never played a Deck, but at least they sound similar in that way.

If the Deck isn't made anymore, maybe shop based on specs for something similar?

I know! I asked you (at that time) if you could sell It to me...but you already sold It...for about 100 USD? ...2 weeks later It was on ebay for 350 Buy It now!!! >.>

The 1, 2, and 3 base models, for the lack of a better way to identify them, were the most "moderate." Bigger throats, wider & flatter "F" rims bigger diameters, etc. all came later. (BTW, there also existed lightweight versions made with Houser, JK, and Melton brands on them. Those were closer to the Bach/Giardinelli mouthpieces Mr. Deck made and used while working for Mr. Giardinelli in NYC.)

The most extreme of these mouthpieces is the 3F with the 9 millimeter-ish throat and huge bowl cup. Oooohweee! A biggun...

If you like these and want something less extreme, look for a plain 1, 2, 3 (no "F") or, if you like the flat rim, the 1F, which is pretty efficient funnel, all with the standard (still 8+ millimeter) throat.

Somewhere in a box here I have a bunch of WD's personal mpcs from over the years that came to me from Chris Olka. They include examples branded JK, Melton, Giardinelli, Orpheo, and Houser. They're much more moderate than what people associate with "Deck" mouthpieces.
I'm definitely not looking for one of the giant ones, I believe the F1 or plain 1 is probably sufficient even for a contrabass tuba. I'd also like to try the 2s but I do believe that the size 3 is excessive and probably would work well on only a very stuffy resistant tuba.

I had the 3F for a very short while and realized the thing is way bigger than I even imagined with a HUGE throat and probably just as heavy at the R&S soup can mouthpieces.

I know that the above is the popular urban legend when it comes to the person who's name is on the mouthpiece, but can we be so sure that what happened was a result of oversize equipment? There are a lot of people playing on big tubas and big mouthpieces everyday that don't experience physical issues. What percent actually go "out of business?"

Perhaps genetics or bad luck plays more of a role?

The 2 is a lot like 1 in cup shape (funnel). It had a bigger throat/backbore combo. The 3 with an F rim and the biggest throat option applied was pretty big. Houser then offered that combo in stainless with a larger diameter rim, too. It was a bruiser.

Different strokes, I guess. :)
An F3 with an even bigger rim just sounds like a whole lot of work  But yeah different floats for different boats
