Eastman 632 mouthpiece selection

Post by Gilly »

Hi all,
I've had my Eastman CC for around 6 months now & absolutely love it.
I would love to hear from owners what your favourite mouthpiece is for this horn & why?
At this stage I've settled on a Hammond 30XL and a standard Conn Helleberg.

Many thanks.

When I had an Eastman I liked a few: Dillon Olka CB2 (Matt Walters recommended this to me and it was probably my favorite), GW Baer MMVI, Blokepiece Symphony, and the Parker Chris Hall with the freelancer shank. The horn seems to be able to take any style cup and play well so it really just comes down to what's most comfortable for you. Good luck! :tuba:

I use a PT88, which gives the horn a beautiful sound. Great range too

Matt Walters made two recommendations to me for the "default" mouthpiece for the 632. He suggested the Dillon Olka CB2 and the Canadian Brass Arnold Jacobs Heritage (a modified Helleberg, as I understand it). I bought them both and currently play the Arnold Jacobs, but each definitely has its charms. Won't part with the Olka anytime soon.

I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying this awesome tuba!

I started with a PT-50 but have been playing a Parker-Hitz cup with the standard Hitz shank exclusively for about a year and a half. The PT-50 was great but the Parker-Hitz really makes this horn come alive for me. As Corbin mentioned, this tuba does not seem to be mouthpiece sensitive and responds well to just about anything you plug into it.

I've been using my friend's 632 for the past few months during ensemble rehearsals. The Baer CC mouthpiece and PT-50 sized mouthpieces feel great for me. I've used a Hammond 30XL a few times on it, but I seem to have misplaced mine.
