Mr. Tuba remanufactured Besson/B&H Eb

Post by oedipoes »

Hi all,

This is my "as new" Besson 3+1 compensating Eb tuba.
It has been completely rebuilt by Mr. Tuba Mark Carter, starting from this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=75159

Complete remanufacture included taking the instrument completely apart, removing bottom bow ball, shortening the rear bottom bow (as much as 35mm on both sides!) replacing the original small mouthpipe with a low Fletcher style large version, removal of all dents and scratches, hand-lapping the valves, bright silver electroplating...

I got top class service, from the first informal email exchange to the choice of the best fitting mouthpiece at delivery!

Enjoy the pictures!

Barry,
Both my Rudi 4/4 BBb and Miraphone Norw. Star Eb have 5 valves ...

It's about the right tool for the right job.
This is my brassband tool from now on, and it's a damn good one!!

Is all the work done by Mark in house or does he send it out to somewhere else? (I wouldn't image he runs a plating tank, of course, as that's a specialty job that requires certain conditions that are rather expensive.)
Yes, Mark has done everything in-house, including the silver-plating.
(Lacquering work would have been outsourced if I remember well...)

Wow! That is some great service and must really make him stand-out of the crowd if he does all of that, even the plating, in house with a quick turn-around.

He does EVERYTHING in house? Even plating and re-plating of valves?

Yes, I think so, but I suggest you contact him with any specific questions...

To aswer bloke's dissappeared question: I saved around 2-3K eur compared to a New one, so yes it was worth it...
I have now an instrument from the glorydays of british brass making, in better condition than when it was brand-new!
