What I've done for MANY years is simply position my left foot so my toes are on the floor, and the bottom of my heel is braced up against the leg of the chair. That, along with an occasional piece of carpet no-skid material, brings my left knee up to the proper height to be in a good position to brace the horn (at this point I actually find myself doing this instinctively....)

My son is a classical guitarist, and he has a footrest - maybe I'll give it a try sometime......

Interesting idea. Look forward to hearing what your experience is using one. Wonder if the slight twisting of the lower spine from the elevation of one leg over time might lead to lower back pain.

Do all guitar footrests have the same number of notches for height adjustments?

Wouldn’t it be worth it looking for a model with many notches, especially if you play a diversity of different tubas depending on the nature of the gig?

You have the tools for that, of course.

My guitar foot rest looks good, made out of stained maple as it is, but it would not be practical in a gig bag. And I am not sure filing more notches would be safe.

I did It two years ago when played in brass ensamble! They all where going to play standed up and I forgot to carry my K&M stand... But in the place we were going to play there was a guitar recital, so I asked to borrow one of their footrest(as the guitar players were my friends, I tested It and liked It! I played the entire recital with the footrest and It was so nice! I usted to Play with my tuba alone as It was the small 3/4 F Cerveny, but with the footrest It was much much confortable!!!

Did the guitar stand work out?
I tried several a few years back, but all of them (even at the lowest setting) were too tall. I'm still using an old Leonard Maltin Movie Guide
Just the right thickness, but not exactly stage-appropriate.

Tried it, like the concept but the one that was locally available is way too high, and the bottom is one piece stamped steel so not easily modified.

"An old white pages Memphis telephone book's height"...c. 3 inches (for me) seems ideal. My footrest isn't the cheapest one on the market, but others seem (from pictures) to be built just as well. Someone else (on TubeNet) found a ten-buck one that drops down about an inch lower than mine. Perhaps they will post here...(??)

How about a block of wood out of the back 40 and a saw??

for those slobs here (moi) who don't practice but only play gigs...and don't like the various types of tuba playing stands, "something thin and lightweight that fits in the bag" is desirable.

After cutting the free log with the saw purchased decades ago with good old Yankee silver certificates, drill holes in it to reduce weight.

You got one of these don't you??

Bloke, how did you make out with changing the pivot/hinge point on your footrest? Did it bring it down substantially low enough?

Other than that, did anyone ever provide the make of the footrest that had a lower profile?

I'm pretty sure it's not "On Stage" (unless they make more than one model, that is). I've got one here (it actually belongs to my son, the guitarist) and it measures 5" (heel height, that is) in its lowest setting....
