Stripping Silver Plate

I need a satin silver detachable bell stripped down to raw brass to match my horn. Would the best thing to do be sending off to Anderson plating for them to strip? And does anyone know how much that would cost? I've searched the forum on here for related posts and lots of people recommend not to do it. BUT it needs to be done for part of a restoration project. Thoughts?

Keep in mind that you will get a satin brass finish which will probably look pretty awful. So, do you then get it buffed to a smooth finish? It could be as easy to just get it buffed without having the silver removed first. If a satin finish is acceptable a bit of time with a scotchbrite pad might be the very low cost approach.

I was thinking about that.. I guess I was planning on getting it stripped first and then buff the satin raw brass to a shiny finish. But you may have a point about just buffing the silver off without stripping. A satin finish is not acceptable. Definitely needs to be shiny lacquered brass to match the horn. Would love some more feedback on this.

For doing it in the cheap, get some Brasso and steel wool or even 120-180 grit wet dry sand paper. The Brasso will be used in place of water. It will take time but it will work. Once stripped, use triple zero or quad zero steel wool to start buffing then buff some more.
