MW 2144 (& HB6 parts)

Hi all,

I acquired a raw brass MW 2144 from Baltimore Brass about 2 years ago and am wondering if anyone who recalls this horn might know something about its past life. I believe it was there on consignment, but don't know the previous owner or anything beyond that. Asking only to satisfy my own curiosity... There was a terrible blizzard the day I picked it up and we were all more than anxious to get going, so there was little time for chit chat. Many thanks to Dave for his patience that day.

While in Baltimore, I left behind my HB6. If you (or you know the person who) bought this horn about two years ago from BBC and are interested in the second main slide & tuning jigger assembly, drop me a line and we'll figure something out.

I would agree that the tuba was likely built by someone who knew it was not destined for a showroom floor...

With no rotor, at least your 2144 can be tuned.

True... It's a short main slide even without the fifth rotor. In fact it's short (and well-aligned) enough that, without a coating of heavy grease, it will work itself out of the horn.

I have mused about a LH operated lever to actuate the upper 4th slide and help out the low register, but hadn't thought of fussing with the main slide. There's not a lot of pull to be had there (maybe 1/2 inch or a little more) but it might be just enough. Hmmm.

I had that 2144 at my house, on trial from the previous own. I chose not to buy it and the owner had me send it to BBC. I liked the horn but it wasn't quite right for what I wanted it to be. You have a good horn there.
