What makes this a Hilgers model instead of just a regular 101?

My best guess is that the 101 was called the 'Hilgers model' until the coöperation with Hilgers ended, after that they could not use his name anymore to promote this model of tuba.
The next Hilgers model was the Melton 197 I think...

Probably one of many stencil names for these tubas. They're good players.

This thread has the current stencil name list:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=53607" target="_blank
Principal tuba, Bel Air Community Band
Old (early 1900s?) Alexander BBb proto-163
1976 Sonora (B&S 101) 4-rotor BBb
1964 Conn 20J/21J BBb (one body, both bells)
~1904 York 3P BBb Helicon
Old Alex Comp.F, in shop

Well, except that Walter Hilgers is a professional German tuba player, not the name of a company or importer.

Hilgers also had his name attached to some of the older Meinl Weston 45-series F tuba variants (different configurations of valves, triggers, etc.). So I'm wondering if this is a special kind of 101 that was modified to his specs... and what that might be.

The specs are still listed on the MrTuba website:

"B&S 3101
Bore: 19mm (0.748") Bell diameter: 420mm (16-1/2") Height: 110cm (43-1/3") B&S BBb-Tuba 3/4 "Model W.Hilgers" 3101 4 rotary valves, Nickel silver rim"
