Summer is here

Post by MaryAnn »

89 predicted the end of the week. For ya'll, that is summer. For us, it is the sign that winter is morphing into spring. Our climate in southern AZ: 8 months of summer and 4 months of Extreme Heat.

Ten inches of snow predicted for Thursday

Send some of that heat up here - the older I get, the less patience I have with winter.... :x

Six more weeks? I hope not....

So, ignoring (almost) that totally gross picture, it is 50 degrees with actual water falling from the sky here today. I think the weather is just confused. But the good part is I didn't have to put water in the pool, and Nov-Feb is when they decide the sewer charge for the year, based on how much water you use. So I let the pool get really low and the fruit trees get really thirsty during those months.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Well, now spring is REALLY here. The fig has little green leaves poking out from the buds, and the apricot and orange are starting to flower. The peach is still just sitting there. Time to start watering....and the Gila woodpeckers are back in droves, or at least the male's mating call's switch is now in the ON position. It's hard to believe these are endangered because there are so many of them here.

Me: Oregon, you can't get all the seasons into one day

Oregon: Hold my beer

I woke up to an inch of snow. At about 11, the sun was shining, and I had a good view of some daffodils from my "office". At 2, it was pouring rain. Heading home at 4, it was rain with snow mixed in. Technically, since it never got above 42, summer was absent. Every other season was present and accounted for.

I heard the tree frogs (spring peepers) out in the swamp in the middle of last week (70° F) - then, it went down to 8° F Saturday night....

I hope they're going to be ok - I usually don't hear them until late April or early May...... :(

90 predicted for today. Last time we were 90 was last Halloween. Then we got our four months of summer; now headed back into Extreme Heat. Last year I think I used the pool in April. Pool is now at 66; I just checked. Once it hits 70 it will be fine for taking dips to cool off.

I think I'm going to go buy a couple more window-mount AC units. One for my bedroom, which has been cooled by a swamp cooler, and not well enough (86 a lot of the time with it running) and I'll hope I get one that does not come "pre-contaminated with mold" from China. I just didn't buy a very, very nice Class B motorhome that I *really* liked because the AC, only two years old, was blowing mold big time. So I won't even get that brand new, because if it is THAT moldy in two years, I'd never even make it through a summer's use. Those things are big bucks.
