I've used Citristrip on a couple of my tubas to strip old lacquer before re-lacquering. Works pretty good. You paint it on with a brush. Wait at least 30 - 40 mins to let it 'dissolve' the old lacquer. On thicker or more stubborn lacquer, you may have to reapply 2 or 3 times.

Sorry, I knew it had something to do with a bar...great for polishing natural brass and works really well on heavily tarnished silver...get the liquid as the powder burns you.

What did you use when you rubbed off the citristrip? Just a rag?

Citristrip works great for removing conn lacquer from the 40's. You can get it at Home Depot for 20 bucks. I bought no scratch buffing pads as well but really didn't need it.

Perfect thank you! Going to try this on my 1940 Conn to get all the old lacquer off before I send it out to be relacquered.
