Info on method book by Bill Bell from 1931

Post by Scott Roeder »

The book I have is called "Foundation to Tuba and Sousaphone Playing-A Complet Method for the Eb, C and Bb Tubas". It was written by Bill Bell and published by Carl Fisher. The copyright is from 1931. It has a picture of Mr. Bell on the cover and he looks to be quite in shape.

Does anyone have any more info on this book? The condition of the book is great. The back cover only has a small tear on the bottom. Other than that it looks to be in perfect condition. Is this book of any historical value? I have an image of the front cover but don't know how to post it here. I would email it to anyone who could tell me more about the book. Thanks for your help.

This book was published until recently by Charles Colin:

Maybe they still have a new old copy lying around.

Though I'm glad to see that the Joe Tarto book's back in print.

After looking at the description on Charles Colin's website, I am not sure this is the same book he has for sale. In the book I have, there are no duets or Blazevich etudes. The book I have is 106 pages long. It is divided up into three sections. First there are 28 lessons, then a short solo study section, and finally there is a section with band excerpts. Is this what the Bell Method that Colin sells has in it?

Oh, you mean the book with all of the lessons iscored for BBb, CC and Eb. Still published by Carl Fisher--about 20 bucks and available from lots of places, including Dillon Music:

(I've heard stories that Bell didn't think much of it.)

That would be the book, thanks for the information. It still has a nice picture of Bell on the cover.
