I love his music--and Bob Stewart's great tuba work with him. He's been underappreciated. Sad to hear of his passing.

Re: Arthur Blythe
Arthur Blythe was one of a kind! I put him in the same league as Paul Desmond, Lou Donaldson and Art Pepper- Original players with instantly recognisable conceptions and tone.
His decades long collaboration with Bob Stewart brought out the best in both their playing.

Look for their version of "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" on "Blythe Spirt" (1981) - very nice tuba solo on this Standard.circusboy wrote:I love his music--and Bob Stewart's great tuba work with him. He's been underappreciated. Sad to hear of his passing.

I've been looking for a video I'd seen before of Blythe/Stewart playing "Night Song." It seems to have disappeared from YouTube. If I recall correctly, it was live somewhere in Brazil. . . .
