Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?Smaller bell, quicker response?
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?I guess I should explain my thinking. Nowadays, many high school players are being pushed into learning CC. However, as small and as un-moneyed as I was in high school, i had to settle for clinging on to a lovely 186 BBb for dear life. If there had perhaps been a cheap small CC tuba at the time, I definitely would have looked into buying one, especially as a junior or senior preparing to go off to school
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?I would not rule out adding a small CC tuba to range later (won't be this year), but think a front piston tuba would be more popular than high bell rotary version.
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?I'd love to see that, even if it is just as simple as maybe a 5 valve version of the 621 clone already out there. That is something that nobody has done before
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?Possibly with the larger 821 bell?
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?I'd like to see a CC 4/4 "Anton." I know you've got the "Mahler" but I just can't get over the looks of that tall bell.

Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?
The Anton will be in stock at Wessex Michigan store by the end of the month. I have been playing an Anton a lot myself of recent both with band and orchestra (Prokofiev 5 and Mahler 1). I have had no problems with intonation and love the sound from it. I have had positive feedback from conductors and trombones too.
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?A Moritz or Bruckner tuba (check out the Szentpali videos!) with a modern valve section!
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?Possibly a Rotary BAT? Like a Rudy copy or york style with a rotary valve section.
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?
Is that CC or BBb?
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?A CC or BBb. My preference would be a CC as I am primarily a CC player but I know a lot of BBb players that would adore having a rotary BAT.
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?Or Neptune like, seeing as there is a nice gold brass Neptune to base the design off of
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like? Before you go building another rotary tuba, please invest some effort into improving your valve linkage setups. Right now you've got some well designed tubas that play great, hobbled by less than impressive rotary valves. If Schiller can get real German Minibal linkages on their tubas I bet you can as well.
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?Something like this perhaps?

Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?A York Shape piston f tuba
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?
Big Mouth Brass sells one of those already.
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?
We have done back to back comparison using German Minibal linkages and they made no discernible difference. Previous rotary valve problems have been due to failings in process quality control and cleaning which have now been identified and addressed
Re: Wessex Tubas - what would you like?I would be interested to see more collaboration with multiple 'Tuba whisperers'. I could only imagone what kind of ideas a meeting of the minds between the leading names in frankentubadom could come up with.
