6/4 CC York Copy Wessex
Not sure if this has been posted yet, just saw this on Facebook !! Prototype 6/4 York CC WESSEX looks close !!!
https://www.facebook.com/WessexTubas/ph ... =3&theater" target="_blank
Here is what is being said of Facebook (Note Not my words),
"I am pleased to give you a first glimpse of the new Wessex York Classic 6/4 CC of which the prototype was completed only a few days ago. I had told the factory that this would be Wessex new 'flagship' tuba and they must make a good job, and they certainly took my word and produced a better tuba than even I would have thought possible in China.
Instead of using parts from our new Grand 6/4 BBb, they made entirely new mandrels, so there are no compromises with this tuba. It is build as a CC from the start, and not a cut down BBb. Furthermore they decided to entirely hand-make the tuba in the exclusive 'high-grade' department, hand hammering the bell and all the larger bows in traditional fashion, as done by the smaller German factories. I was told just the top bow alone took two craftsmen two days to make, so much care was taken. I truly believe this is the best quality tuba to ever come out of China.
Due to the hand-hammering the tuba is incredibly light. Although 6/4 size CC, at only 8kg, it is lighter than our regularly TE560 Champion Eb tuba!
Professional testing will now be undertaken, and if favourable, the Wessex TC695 York Classic will be out early 2018. I can't give you a retail price as yet, but am aiming for it to be considerably less than anything else equivalent available.
Pictured is Chuck Nickles (ex-US Army Band, Europe and now Wessex technical consultant) play testing the York at factory for the very first time. — with Charles Allen Nickles."

Could a foreign company sell a car in the US and call it a Ford? Or a Studebaker, or a Corvette? It might not matter. I would assume Wessex would have done their homework on this very question.Stryk wrote:Does it matter? His business in in the UK and the horns are made in China. It amazes me what you lot come out with. The patent protects the branding, so a tuba could not be sold with York engraved on the bell. Wessex has no intention of branding the tuba with the York name. It will have Wessex on bell, as all other tubas in the range. The 'York' only refers to the historic design. I don't even know if it will be listed by that name on the website when the tuba is actually listed. Mark, I do rather like your suggested name of 'Chicago'. We will see...

Why they changed it, I can't say. People just liked it better that way.TheGoyWonder wrote:Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.

Personally, I think "Her Majesty, The Queen Mother" sounds appropriate.Wyvern wrote:It amazes me what you lot come out with. Amsterdam = DutchBilly M. wrote:Why they changed it, I can't say. People just liked it better that way.TheGoyWonder wrote:Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.
York = British
In 1664, the English took it from the Dutch and renamed in honor of the Duke of York. Since it was across the ocean, it was "New York".

As far as I know, the big Nirschls have always been referred to as the "York copy". Without consequence. Much ado about nothing.

The Nirschl site still says "die einzige wirklich exakte Kopie der CSO York Tuba", or "the only truly exact copy of the CSO York tuba". I'd guess the name can be thrown around with impunity.

What about the line of German made York brasses from earlier in this millenium?
