Re: Update Update
My only personal experience with something that seemed to work was diatomaceous earth. Not applied on purpose, rather the cat chose to sleep on a bale of the stuff in an attached shed, and probably punctured the plastic cover enough that it was getting dusted a bit all the time. Seemed to have no flea troubles. The stuff is hard on insects, and that particular situation probably made the most of it - a flea that jumped off onto that plastic cover couldn't possibly get around the silica fragments.

I've always wondered how they tune a triangle. Do they use the same method for other polyhedrons?

I'd like to sign up too. I have 3 mouthpieces and a bunch of rims and I am a professional. (My city band pays us $2 a practice and $3 a performance so I usually get a check for about $50 for the summer). So, do I now get a bumper sticker to put on my tuba case?bloke wrote:I would like to officially announce that I've signed on with myself as a blokepiece artiste.
If you have any questions about playing 1 - 5 - 1 - 5 - 1 - 5, whole notes, counting rests, "how out-of-tune is just too much", what to do during the time when most-anything-written-before-1850 is being rehearsed/performed, navigating those mysterious Indian double-belled sousaphones, how to snag that extra-$800/yr. per-service orch. librarian job, or even topics such as "community band medleys and arrangements written during the hip-hop generation and beyond", feel free to contact me any time.
I'm also available to hold masterclasses on these - as well as other topics - at your institutions of higher learning or symposia.
Thank-you.

Re: Update Update
So I took my Bubbie 5 to community band practice last night and it was a hit. I play with another tuba player so I'm kind of an assist to the sound. They could hear me across the band and they liked it. Our concert is in a band shell outdoors. The tubas sit in the back so the shell really helps our sound project. I'm thinking on using the Bubbie in the next concert. Normally I play a 1912 Martin with this band of 40 pieces.

Re: Update Update
Well it worked out ok. The tuba sound for the band was noticeably less than normal. I will go back to my Martin for sound presence. However, it was a fun experiment.opus37 wrote:So I took my Bubbie 5 to community band practice last night and it was a hit. I play with another tuba player so I'm kind of an assist to the sound. The word "tuba" appears to be part of that young lady's name (I gather she's Turkish).

Re: Update Update
When playing in five flats, I'd prefer a fourth valve in the 2,3 combo instead of the 1,3.
What can be done about this??

Re: Update Update
I believe I got mine for more like $100, and it's a smart phone - indeed a near genius - but a couple key corollaries to its economy are 1) I hardly use it, and 2) more importantly, I don't have "data." There's very little logging in to that/that, connecting to this/this, because that works only when I have wifi - so no depending on it for navigation for example. But I doubt it costs me $20 a year.

As of a few months ago, the local AT&T store still had flip phones. LG, IIRC.bloke wrote:I want my flip-phone back. It was a helluva lot "smarter" (at least more polite and obedient) than an iPhone, and did what it was told: answered and made phone calls.
