Yellowish Residue

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

I have been using Hetman's for a while, but I am now occasionally noticing a yellowish color, in the moisture that comes out of the spit valves.

I don't know if it is actually a Hetman's issue, but I don't remember having the problem before.

Has anyone else experienced this problem??? If so, what do you think the cause is?

This isn't your tuba, is it?

Yes, I am using the slide grease, also. What effect does that have?

Yes, the Hetman's synthetic oil leaves a yellow residue(which is extremely resistant to laundering!). The caps on the silver plated tuba I use it on look like they've been gold plated- not! Hetman needs to address this problem in an otherwise very good product.

Does everybody who uses Hetman's experience this, or is it tied to the combination of the valve oil & the Hetman's slide grease?

I use Hetman's rotor oil on my french horn and have not seen this, but I haven't been using it very long. I use the Selmer red goo for slide grease.

Interesting...

I used to use "Selmer's red goo" (or Selmer's cork and slide grease--the pink stuff) for slide grease but noticed I was getting some yellow or brown stains on my handkerchief and/or clothing. I switched to Hetman's heavy slide grease last year. Problem went away. I'm still using Hetman's Light piston oil.

Yup, I noticed this too... doesn't really bother me though. I use Selmers grease, and have for a while and never noticed the yellow until switching to Hetman's.
