Ewazen Concerto (tuba)
I recently played "Concerto for Bass Trombone or Tuba" by Eric Ewazen and totally loved it, as did my instructer. But other than around here, I havnt heard anything about it. Has anyone else played it or heard it? What you think about it?

Ed Jones did a terrific job playing the Ewazen a couple of years ago at the TCU OctubaFest, I believe. He also played it at the TUBA Convention in Canada, I'm sure that was stellar, too.
Ask Ed.

Definately get the recording of Charlie Vernon playing it with Ewazen himself accompanying him on Piano. Another great option is the Velvet Brown recording.
There is a recording called Eric Ewazen Bass Hits on Albany Records which has Rojak, Taylor, Vernon, and Sanders playing various works of his. Stefan Sanders plays this piece with the Czech Philharonic Chamber Orchestra (complete with the mallet percussion). GREAT!!!! GREAT!!! recording!!!

HAH!!!!!! F cimbasso.... As crazy as that sounds, that would lie nearly perfectly for an F cimb. Plus, it incorporates the valve part of a tuba with the trombonishness of the bass trombone. I'd be curious to hear that. LOL.TubaNewsRose wrote:I've heard the Ewazen performed on F Cimbasso - just for fun by Gary Buttery (ret. Coast Guard, my teacher at Connecticut College)! It was really interesting.
