Lemon Pledge???

Post by JB »

Lemon Pledge???

Not sure if I have this right, but I recall reading on this site about some using Lemon Pledge on their instruments. Do I understand correctly that this is used after polishing the horn to add a coating that helps retard tarnishing? :?:

So, it seems that this would be used for either silver-plated instruments, or raw brass (as lacquer is already a protective coating). Accurate? :?:

Or, am I just a gullible victim of some major-league leg-pulling, and this is all a belated April Fool’s prank?

Thanks for any clarifications and explanations.

Well, it's basically oil with a bit of water, so it probably won't do any harm, other than make your horn a bit slippery.

I know w brass tech who uses it to lube his dent balls. Claims that it leaves almost nothing behind to clean out.

There are trombone players who use Lemon Pledge on their handslides - no kidding - usually in combination with a cream like Trombotine.

My understanding is that Pledge and similar oil base products are used in the funrniture world as a mousturizer for lacquered, prolonging the life of the finish. I could be wrong, however.

If you chose to go the pledge route, use it sparingly. Too much and that lemon fresh scent will linger longer (!) than I'm sure most would appreciate.

happy dusting.
