Anyone at NABBA?

Post by Tubadork »

Hey,
Anyone here going to be at NABBA this weekend?

I’ll be there with the Georgia Brass Band. I’ll be the guy with the Mohawk and you’ll think wow, he’s a lot chubbier than I thought he would be.

And does anyone happen to know what time the exhibits open tomorrow?

Hope to see you there.

Thanks,
B

ps I may have an Amplituba CD or 2 if you’re dying to have one.

Just rolled into town. First time I've gone, looking forward. Playing with Capital City in section 2.

Left the credit cards with tuba sized limits at home for saftey reasons.

Currently exploring the bar near my hotel. So far so good.

Not at NABBA this year. I've done it for ten years and have the T-shirts to prove it.

Genuinely curious, as a newbie to the banding world, is there some sort of seceret to holidng the Bb 3+1 horns? Other than growing a longer arm? From reading here it sounds like some folks just don't like the feel.

For those not able to make it, there's streaming for $19.99 for both days and feeds for both auditoriums.

Seems to be 3 bands in Youth, 4 in Youth Open, 1 in Open, 5 in Third Section, 8 in Second Section, 13 in First Section, and 6 in Championship.

Friday night bands were, in alphabetical order, not performance order:

Youth Open
Avon High School Brass Choir
Fountain City Youth Band
Triangle Youth Brass Band
Triangle Youth Academy Brass Band

Championship Section (test piece only; remaining piece(s) tomorrow night beginning around 7 pm)
Atlantic Brass Band
Brass Band of Central Florida
Chicago Brass Band
Fountain City Brass Band
James Madison University Brass Band
Tallgrass Brass Band

Could someone please tell me who was first in Third Section, the three bands in Youth Section, and the first two bands in Second Section? I had streaming issues when they were on.

I was distracted writing down the results, so point totals may not be accurate

Youth Open
1 Triangle Youth Brass Band 291
2 Fountain City Youth BB 288
3 Triangle Youth Academy BB 285

Youth
1 Fountain City Honor Band 285
2 Watson BB 282
3 Motor City Youth BB 269?

Open
no band or score announced

Third Section
1 Triangle BB 288
2 Fountain City Academy Band 283
3 Old Crown Brass Band 282

Second Section
1 Rockville Brass Band 287
2 Fillmore Philharmonic Brass 280
3 Cincinnati BB 275

First Section (13 bands!)
1 San Antonio Brass Band 294.8 (first time at NABBA)
2 Weston Silver Band 290.2
3 Dublin Silver Band 288.4

Championship Section
1 Fountain City BB 291
2 Atlantic BB 284.6
3 Brass Band of Central Florida 284.2

If I've messed up anyone's score, PM me and I'll fix it. Eventually.

This was the biggest NABBA ever, with the most bands ever and the most solos & ensembles. There were two bands and three ensembles from Canada, the first-ever high school group, and four first-time groups. David Fedderly was a judge.

They announced that starting next year it will stretch to three days, and a judgeship mentoring program is beginning this year.

You're welcome. I don't know how long it will be until all the judging results will be posted. I'm very curious about scores of some of the non-placing bands. Past results are under http://nabba.org/about/archives.html, but I have no idea how long it will take for this year's to appear. The Brass Band Bridge is going to semi-annual, and the spring edition is already out, so unless they add the results to the one already posted, we're just going to have to keep an eye on the web site.

The Brits drive on the left side of the road, so their left arms become elongated from always reaching for the shifter.
