Tuba Solos in Film

Post by thegreatrodinkis »

Many of you may have heard the Jabba the Hutt solo from the Star Wars movies... but I've been looking around to see if there are any other notable ones and haven't seen much. Does anybody know of any tracks from films that feature tuba soloists? Let me know cause I would love to take a listen to some of them :tuba:

The Reivers - score by John Williams - long tuba solo near middle of film played by Chester Schmidt

Correction: Tommy Johnson was the soloist - not Chester <> my bad.

No kidding! I just finished listening to Wild Signals on Spotify. What a coincidence that I'd just heard it and logged into Tubenet here to find this discussion!

I've gotta find myself some parts to this tune and a few double reed players. Just gotta play this tune!

Tommy Johnson! Love it.

There is a nice little solo in the first minute of this clip from "For a Few Dollars More." A great face-off between Lee Van Cleef and Klaus Kinski - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwQEen1oalk" target="_blank" target="_blank.

Of course repeating the them from their first encounter earlier ... https://youtu.be/nftF-g48UYA?t=45

Jaws has a mini tuba solo in the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjbhWAeWH1s" target="_blank

My teacher came in one time during my sophomore year to show me. He had to do an all John Williams concert, which was apparently a workout.
Dvorak probably wrote the the fourteen notes in New World Symphony to get his tuba friends a gig.

Nope, Jim Self. (Tommy had taken a rare vacation to Hawaii.)

Here’s a few more that I I thought of while drinking my morning coffee. There are many others.

Home Alone 1 and 2 both had tuba solos throughout.
Hook during the food-fight scene.
The Flintstones movie.
Ice Pirates.
The new Lemony Snicket series on Netflix.

L.A. Story, low booming noises...

In the film "The Battle of the Bulge," the Tuba plays the Panzerlied theme in the main title and throughout the film. Soundtrack by Frankel.
