Toneking Sousaphone

Post by ger »

Hi,
Someone sent me pictures of a Toneking sousaphone. It's supposed to be a Bbb instrument. I'm inclined to think it's a Czech instrument made shortly after WWII (when Amati used the Toneking brand).
What puzzles me is the unusual wrap. Anyone seen something like this before?

You sure could be right - I thought Toneking was a Keilwerth brand, but in any case Czechoslovakia is always a good bet. Anyway, you might find this old thread interesting, wherein a similar sousaphone turned out to be apparently an English make: Need Sousaphone ID - Stump The Experts! -ADDENDUM

[edit - fixed link]

I like the knob that's been added for mysterious reasons to the outside of the body. For stand fixture?

Toneking was indeed a Keilwerth brand (but Keilwerth didn't make sousaphones). After WWII Amati used the Toneking brand until they were forced by Keilwerth to stop doing this in 1955...

I’d buy one just because Toneking is such a cool name!!

Like Rocket 88 or a Dynaflow!!
