Modi (?)

Post by Big Toot »

Hello. Long time listener. First time caller.
In all seriousness, I just purchased my own tuba for the first time in a very very long time. Because of financial restraints, and my unwillingness to get a second mortgage on my house, I went with a used BBb for cheap. It's not a bad horn, all things considered, but I can't for the life of me figure out who the manufacturer might be. It is stamped with "The Woodwind & The Brasswind" where the maker's mark should go, but no other indications except for a serial number, which doesn't really help.
I took my tuba to my local music store to get some light repairs performed upon it, and the instrument repair fellow said he thought it was a "Modi". Now, I've been around the block a few times, and I have never heard of that brand. Is somebody (anybody) familiar with it? Or is he just full of solid waste?

No, wait. Euphoniumist once again... Damn, it's hard to keep up.

maybe he said "Amati" and it sounded like "moddie"? Just guessing.

If you can post some pictures I’m sure someone here can figure it out.
