American or Euro Shank on 186BBb

Post by Chris Olka »

Hoping the “hive-mind” has the answer. Looking for a young lady who’s playing a newer 186BBb. Will either work ok or should it be American or Euro? Thanks in advance.

My students playing and have played 186s find the most success with an American shank. It might be worth noting that the "youngest" of the horns was manufactured in 1980...

American shank tuba mouthpiece is the best choice for most people playing newer built Miraphone BB186 tuba. American is also the shank size of the mouthpiece (TU-29) that Miraphone sends with the tuba.

Owns old tubas that play better than what you have.
