Thoughts on this tuba
Hi, I am currently looking into buying a used conn 15j tuba. It is the convertible model, with front action piston valves. I would like to know your guys’ thoughts/experience about this tuba.

Re: Thoughts on this tuba
I played a nickel-plated one for a while in high school. I never felt all that comfortable with it myself but I don't think it was a particularly bad horn. I just got a much better sound out of the King detachable bell horns that we started buying around that time. If you can 1) afford it, 2) play it in tune, and 3) feel that the sound you get out of it is what you're seeking, it's not likely a waste of your money since it fits your needs.

I would be paying about $800 for it, and it would be in good condition with all of the nickel plating still on it and some small dents. It would also come with a case and both lead pipes.

For $800, buy it. Good solid tuba with a lot of Common parts similar to a Conn 5J to keep it running.
