Doc wrote:I just got back from a two-week tour in Germany using a borrowed F tuba. The name on the bell was Harmonia. It played pretty darned well. Smaller and lightweight. Bore is fairly small, as is the bell. Any info about manufacturer, stencil, etc? Anyone have experience with one? I don’t ever remember seeing one before. Wondering if it might be from Cerveny? The 6th valve (left hand) is a flat half step, but the 5th valve (right hand) is a fifth - a really nice, open Bb. The fifth valve is after the tuning slide. Pics in the link:

I owned a Cerveny Harmonia (CFB-654-6) for several years, and thought it was a very fine F-tuba. The thumb quint valve produced just about
the best low Bb ever on an F-tuba. The low register was good, the middle register was good, and the high register was good. If I was to stay
on the note for any length of time more than an 8th note in a run, I'd play the 5th line Ab 2-3, but that was the extent of intonation issues - very,
very good. One thing that helped was that I cut down the shank on my favorite F-tuba mouthpiece to properly fit it. This horn was from the 1970's,
and newer ones probably have a different receiver size now.

Here's another photo of one of those Cerveny Harmonia F tubas.

I have a BBb Cerveny called the "Symphonia". Probably made at the same time?
