Contrabass F Trombone with Tuba Mouthpiece Demo

Post by stevennorsworthy »

This is supposed to be a comical but also serious demonstration. I am not recommending this approach unless the contrabass trombonist has developed tuba chops! Enjoy! Try not to throw rotten tomatoes!

Basically, the Kanstul contrabass has a very large divergence between the top and bottom slide tubes, a dual bore concept taken to an extreme. The top tube is 562 and the bottom is 603. The neck pipe output is 630, which is the input of the 1st C valve. The output of the 1st valve is 670, which is the input of the 2nd Db valve. The output of the 2nd valve is 710, which is the input to the small side of the tuning slide at 710. So it has a relatively massive bore. Therefore, the top 562 slide tube acts as the lead pipe itself, into what is effectively a 603/630/670/710 bore instrument! Therefore, I am effectively using a 37" long 562 lead pipe and a mouthpiece that is appropriate for such an effectively large bore instrument!
