FS, FT: Wilson 3200FA-5S F Tuba

Post by Salazarsam33 »

Hello everyone,
I am selling my Willson 3200 F tuba. This is a silver Piston F tuba with the patented ROTAX 5th valve. This is a Pretty large F tuba with an open wrap (as tall as my Wilson 3050). The tuba is in great conditions and has regularly been maintained and cleaned. It has a few cosmetic dings and some silver wear around the first tuning slide. This horn has had modifications made by Mr. Baer, as well as his PVAK installed.

This tuba was previously owned by Tom Lukowicz (Professor of low brass at the University of North Alabama) who purchased from Tuba Exchange in 2000. This model is the original model before any of the new "XL" or "XS" designation were created. It is currently located in San Diego, California.

This horn has been played with the Canton Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of New York, Naples Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony Brass, and Akron Symphony. Here are some Links of Mr. Lukowicz playing on this horn:

Pandericki Capriccio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjM6eazVL-c" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
Bach Cello Suite 1 Minuette: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzniZG43MdA" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
Rumanian Dance no. 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwDbnIdcBq8" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
My personal favorite, Autumn by John Stevens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5_rUFP-b9w" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

Specs:
• Valves: 4 front action piston valves with thumb activated 5th "Rotax" valve
• Bore: .750" to .790" graduated bore
• Bell: 17.75"
• Size: 5/4

Modifications:

1) Lead pipe removed from bell (2004) - The horn does not sound as heavy as the stock 3200. The response has sped up.

2) PVAK (2010) - Valves feel "lighter" on the up and down actions. No need for a valve alignment ever again.

3) Mouthpiece/Receiver Gap (2010) - Work done by Alan Baer. Horn plays more focused, registers are more matched, intonation improved.

4) Reversed the main tuning slide (2011) - Lower register is incredibly more solid. Response has sped up. The usual pitch tendencies have been reduced significantly and all pitches blow very close to center.

5) Cryogenic Treatment (2011) - The extreme softs and louds of this horn still retain the "MF-esque" sound. horn can be pushed to softer and louder dynamics than before the treatment. Response has sped up. The horn resonates much more than before.

Asking 7,500$ for this horn. Buyer pays shipping. This horn does not have a case or bag, but I have a stock Wisemann 900 Case I can include for easier shipping at no cost.

Also considering trades for smaller piston F’s or rotary Fs

This is a great playing horn and I am shocked to see that Tom let this go. Whoever gets it will get a very versatile F that plays about as close as you can get to the old Kuraths in a newer Willson. Best of luck with the sale.
