A Great Trombonist passed away

Post by Art Hovey »

George Masso passed away last Tuesday. He was almost 93.

He started working with our band back in 1971 while still working as a high school band director. After a year or two he took a sabbatical and started working with Bobby Hackett, then Benny Goodman, and on into the big time. But he continued to work with us occasionally for the next 20 years. Always a perfect gentleman, always willing to play magnificently whatever we chose to perform.

Here are two numbers from CDs which we issued recently, illustrating what we sounded like back then when he was with us:

The cds are available from the Galvanized Jazz Band website:

I’m sorry to hear this, Art. I’ve heard you speak of him before. Sorry for your loss.
