yup...many 20K sousaphones feature this intonation quirk as well...but I gather 'em up, 'cause band directors have convinced themselves they are the cat's pj's.

I prefer Conn 20K sousaphones over most of the other sousaphones currently offered on the market.

I used to like the old 14K (or 36K fiberglass) the best, but I'm coming around to understanding why there are so many who really like King sousaphones. I pass on the 20K's (for personal use) for the same reason that I pass on the parade of 6/4 piston C tubas.

I totally understand. I like the old 14Ks and Fiberglass 36Ks (I owned one for personal use) for a while. The king sousaphones play very well. I just like the feel, and depth of sound on the 20Ks. I also really like the short action valves. That's also why I enjoy the old 2XJ tubas. To me, it's worth a little extra work.

Completely off topic...Have you all played the System Blue 4 valve sousaphone? I played that sousaphone at a couple conferences and I was pleasantly surprised.
