Brass Quintet Help

Post by jpmadigan »

Hello,
Does anyone know of any upper level high school brass quintet music with a fairly active tuba part/tuba solo? I'm looking to form a group but i'm having trouble finding music that would fit us well. It's a standard quintet with 2 trumpets, a horn a trombone and a tuba. I (the tuba player) am the arranger/organizer so I think I can be a bit greedy for a good part :).

Thanks for any help.

Look at the Robert King Music catalog for starters. You'll find material such as:

Die Bankelsangerlieder
Contrapunctus (Bach: Art of the Fugue material)
Gabrieli (various; some is for larger brass ensembles, but still worth a look)
Canzona Bergamasca

And don't overlook the material available from Canadian Brass. They offer many, many titles in various grades from beginner level to manuscripts written for Canadian Brass performance that are challenging. Played well, most of these arrangements are really quite nice.

Finally, here is some light reading for you on the subject (seriously, take a look at this. Lots of good info for you):
