HERALD

Not to bust you on spelling, but Harold is a man's name, and the trumpets are called Herald trumpets.

That mistake has been made before, at this year's inaugural balls. In the program for one of the balls, we were billed as The US Army Harold Trumpets...

I dunno who proofread that, if anyone...

I got myself dressed and started walking down to the Capitol right after watching the sousaphones on PBS, with the idea of finding them and telling them they did a good job. It looked like they spent more rehearsal time than we did for our appearances.. lol

I was a little late, though, but at least I finally got to see how many people populate the Mall on the 4th. I pretty much stayed away my first three years here, and last year I was on the "other side of the fence", so to speak, isolated by security for the PBS broadcast -- so I never got a good look at the throngs mashing down the lawn.

Could be worse. Sunday morning, a contingent of about 20 members of the East Tennessee Concert Band played at a local church. We were listed in the bulletin as the EASY Tennessee Concert Band!!:oops:

BTW, FOX News showed some clips from the Iwo Jima Monument. Not sure when it was recorded, but it was shown Monday at the end of Brit's show.

Unlike the Last time the D&BC was on TV, the bass was almost completely missing.

Nice shots of the contras though, Zoome in shot so the horn filled he screen, and the rotor was clearly visable.

The slient drill team looked good too. The mics picked them up well.
I wish there was a DVD of that show available. My son though the rifle work was cool

Some day I need to get to Arlington...

Dean, I know how you feel when they just can't seem to get the name right . . .

I met my wife playing with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra one long long long long long long summer ago. At one of the towns we stopped to play in they got our name wrong in the newspaper announcement.

They called us the American Wind Sympathy Orchestra. Someone's spell checker obviously goofed on that one.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot that they were there (last week, right?).

That's why I was so surprised that there was decent bass in the PBS broadcast for Memorial Day -- I expected to hear none, like you did from the Fox broadcast. But hey, these horns will only get so loud.

One of the cameras did point our way a few times; doesn't surprise me that they used a closeup (especially since the contra is, um, "unique".. lol).

I wonder if we could get a hold of that Fox segment somehow.

They were all tuba players from the University of Maryland. I know one of the guys, and he had told me they would be on TV - sorry I missed it! Glad someone else caught it though!
