Rutter Gloria (breathing?)

Post by quinterbourne »

Hello Tubenetters!

Since taking a full time position as a music librarian, and started a family,I haven’t much time for playing. As a result, my breathing ain’t what it used to be. I am playing the Rutter Gloria in a rather professional group and am having a hard time with the opening three lines (pictured below). I don’t know how fast (or slow) it is going to be, and I worry about having enough air for the crescendo (then maybe not a lot of time to breath before the eighths). I wonder if I should breathe in the 5th or 6th measure, then should I sneak back in or articulate on the next downbeat?

I’ve done this once before, but maybe 10+ years ago. I am particularly interested in hearing from those who have played this before.

Thoughts? Advice?

I seem to remember the organ being a help here too?

And play it on a BBb, much easier...
