I heard Soul Bassa Nova today, and I thought, “Ooooh, Cimbasso”

It's not just a bass trombone? I wouldn't have guessed.Three Valves wrote:I heard Soul Bassa Nova today, and I thought, “Ooooh, Cimbasso”

Chris Olka's extensive review of the Dillon cimbasso.

It is my understanding that the same fabricator supplies Dillon and Wessex (for this cimbasso, not necessarily for other instruments).

I’m pretty sure it is a bass trombone. But if the part ever came up in one of bloke’s orchestra gigs, I think he’d whip out the cimbasso!!anotherjtm2 wrote:It's not just a bass trombone? I wouldn't have guessed.Three Valves wrote:I heard Soul Bassa Nova today, and I thought, “Ooooh, Cimbasso”

Re: how about cimbassos
Thanks! I'll confess I'm not hearing much to complain about in the 1964 Big Band Bossa Nova recording. I must not be discerning enough to complain about the flute, and the trombones are such a joy anyway.bloke wrote:http://www.word-detective.com/2008/03/clam/anotherjtm2 wrote:I'll bite: what's a trumpet clam?
Edit: Ok, about a minute in the highest flutes are shrill. Somehow, it sounds worse in the 2001 Talkin' Verve mix. And now I think I'm worrying about it too much....

Or any Chuck Mangione recording. Well, flugel clams.bloke wrote:If you want to hear a bunch of trumpet clams, listen to some of the old Sinatra recordings.
