Re: Tell me some good news
I'm going to get some serious face time for the next many weeks. My normally heavy travel schedule just went poof!
And a couple of projects around the house will get done.
We have enough TP for a month.
That's my good news for today.

That was exactly our line of thinking. Other than at the tee box and putting green, it won't take any extra effort at all for us to be many yards from each other.bloke wrote:Assuming you are a reasonably good golfer,
If you and I were to play the same course and strictly alternate strokes, our “social distancing“ would probably be approximately 5000 feet, with you up there ahead.

I haven't played golf in 10 seasons. I was just starting to break 100 when a nasty double hernia took me out of the game and I haven't taken a full swing since. You might have a fightin' chance...

My wife turned 15 a couple of weeks ago. Half of our 6 children made it home to celebrate including 5 out of 7 grandchildren plus many friends, too, all here in the hills of east Tennessee. Doesn’t this all sound very hillbilly?

Perhaps a photo essay of your new acquisitions could be part of "Tell Me Some Good News"? We are hopeful!!Doc wrote:Well, Bort...

Chris,
I got a Trek Domane. Where I used to live aero and fast were the preferred qualities in a road bike but here in Alberta I need something with wider tire clearance, disk brakes and some shock absorbing. The terrain is beautiful and now my weekly ride to Banff and back will be much less bumpy!
Luckily cycling is a rather social distancing activity for me!

That’s a nice bike. I have mostly given up road riding over the past few years in favor of mountain biking and gravel. Too many crazy drivers out there,

There’s some pretty amazing dedicated pathways in Alberta that make it all almost doable with no street riding. Downside is the ever changing terrain (gravel paths, etc..) and I never ride as fast as I did living in the South. But, I much prefer this to having to contend with passing cars, snakes, and dogs who are left unattended!

No.
On off years, you have to work to compensate for not having a birthday. On leap year, you’re expected to go overboard. It is kind of a no win situation (for me) or no lose (for her). All that is said with a

It is interesting. One of our kids and she celebrated being 10 at the same time. She will be 18 with our oldest grandchild for a few days before he turns 19 in early March of 2032.

Re: Tell me some good news
Out of curiosity, on what day does she celebrate her birthday? My grandfather was born on February 29, but he celebrated it on February 28 (as do most, I suspect) - I always thought this wasn't accurate, because in non-leap years, March 1 would be in the actual place where Feb 29 would have occured........?proam wrote:bort wrote:Always wondered... Forced to work from home is now like Eat-Work-Tuba-Repeat (every disadvantage has an advantage...right?)
The great news (for me) is that I'm doing the Tuba thing on my recently acquired Rudolf Meinl Bb 5 valve. An excellent Tuba
Lovin' it!
I'm also expecting to receive the Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand soon (Thanks Joe). I'm pretty sure it will be a nice addition to my Symphony.
Be realistic, but stay positive!

I have built all-surface bikes for me and the Redhead from a pair of old Cannondale touring bikes from the late 80’s. The rear triangle is designed to accommodate a 130mm axle, and I’ve built them with old 8-speed rear free hubs. Mine uses a vintage Campy Racing Triple up front, a Chorus rear freehub with a Miche cassette (28-tooth cog), Mirage shifters, and 38mm Compass tires. Works great on our dirt roads and is very good on pavement.mikebmiller wrote:tmmcas1 wrote:Chris,

I’m going to have to ride more this year for longer workouts—running is starting to be a problem for me in the longer distances.

Outdoor recreation seems to be about the safest thing to do these days. No CV in the woods. But I read that even recreation cycling has been banned in Spain and Italy, on the off chance that if someone gets hurt, they would be taking medical resources away from CV patients.Rick Denney wrote:I have built all-surface bikes for me and the Redhead from a pair of old Cannondale touring bikes from the late 80’s. New Holland Beer is brewed in Holland Michigan. Holland is a beautiful little town on Lake Michigan. The flower displays there in the spring and summer are breath taking!
A Stout aged in a Boubon barrel? Sooooo good! You just have to be aware of the higher alcohol content. You can easily cross over to the "Dark Side"!

The entire drive down the western coast of Michigan is beautiful, but my favorite town was way up at the top - Charlevoix. That has to be some of the clearest water I have ever seen, just beautiful!Marky76 wrote:New Holland Beer is brewed in Holland Michigan. Holland is a beautiful little town on Lake Michigan. For a brief two-month window, all of the first batch of Neilan children are now teenagers. (Wait, is that good news???) The straggler still has a long way to go.
