Storing gig bags

I have a closet with about eight electric bass bags, three tuba bags, and a Mooradian upright gig bag. The electric bass bags work well upside down on coat hangers, but the upright and tuba bags have no rhyme or reason for storage, so getting in and out of that closet, which has a few boxes of equipment on the floor, is very difficult.

What do you guys do for storing them? I'm thinking of getting a few Rubbermaid bins and stuffing each in its own box so it's easier to get in and out of the closet.

Mine hang from the rafters in the basement via large hooks that screw into the rafters. That is also where my helicon is stored when not sitting on my shoulder.

The main reason I hang ‘em high. Also the reason I never leave my hard cases open when my horns aren’t in them. That and the fear they might use them as a litter box.

My bet is that manufacturers and suppliers store new gig bags folded up tightly in plastic bags. The exception might be leather gig bags, which might show crease marks. But I bet they have a way to fold those, too.

Thanks...but since I'm in Florida, I don't have a basement!

I think what I'm going to do is get a Rubbermaid bin for each of the tuba gig bags, the upright, and one for my like 8 extra gig bags. That way, I can neatly stack everything in my case closet, and pull out only the gig bag I need when I'm off, rather than having to dig through the pile in the closet for the right one.

I kicked Harry Potter out of the closet underneath the stairs and keep all the toobah cases there.

The earlier Reunion Blues SF and Glenn Cronkhite bags had an extra D-ring attached at the bow-end of the case. This was put there to allow owners to hang the bags when not in use. I don't know if any of the later (zip-all-the-way-around) cases had that handy D-ring. I can see that the current productions bags do not have it.

My cases have it, but because of the bell flare side of the case, it still takes up a ton of space when hung. My electric bass bags take up the entire closet rack...but I'm considering cleaning that out with the exception of my two or three main cases. I don't usually bring more than two basses to a gig, anyway.

It's a small closet, and a small house. I'm catching flack from my girlfriend for the space that my hard cases for both horns take up. I've thought about selling the cases, but I don't know if I could find a buyer for a very beat-up 12J case OR a Kanstul 5/4 BBb. I guess I could stick the unused gig bags in there?

Still, the closet is tiny, and between the very heavy-duty Mooradian and Protec gig bags, that bag pile is waist-high in the closet, and all three cases have to come out to grab the right one for a gig.

Nice! Looking forward to going out for some bins to try my idea...but it's not an essential need, nor am I in and out with my instruments at the moment, obviously, so it's going to be a while before I try it out.
