-SOLD- Reynolds BBb Contempora Tuba

Post by WakinAZ »

-SOLD-
Reynolds Contempora Model TB-11 BBb recording tuba, 3 valves with fully functioning first valve slide tuning mechanism. Manufactured appx. 1966. S/N 225XXX.

This is the Model TB-11-- Bore: .687″, Bell: 23″, 50½” height.
This horn was mechanically refurbished by Taylor Music, including valve replating, so all slides and valves are working great. I did not have the finish redone as I like the vintage look; lacquer is probably about 80%.

The overall sound and response is very similar to the old model King 1241/2341, but a bigger sound. If the King is a 4/4, this is a 5/4.
Perfect for those outdoor summer concerts/gigs.

It currently has an Olds 98 recording bell refurbished by Taylor with the original finish intact (~85%). Worst wear is on the back guard plate (see pic). The bell is a little tough to get on and off, but is able to rotate to the desired position once fully seated
[O98: virtually identical horn to the Reynolds made by Olds with same specs and many shared parts made in both Abilene,Texas and Fullerton,California as the two companies gradually became one during the latter part of the 1960s. Think Buick/Oldmobile and you get the idea, minor cosmetic/trim differences.]

The Reynolds recording bell for this horn is available, but I currently have it paired with another horn. I can certainly match up the bell to this body if you like, but the Olds Bell is in better condition.
The Olds bell was made in Fullerton, CA in appx. 1969.

Also available sometime soon at additional cost will be original Reynolds cases for both body and bell in functional condition. I have appropriate sized boxes to ship without the heavy hard cases,

Located in Tucson Arizona. Shipping will be by Greyhound package express to CONUS only.

$1195 plus $175 shipping. Venmo, Paypal or toilet paper. (Just kidding about the paper.)

Why am I selling? I found a 4-valve version of the same horn, and I really don't need two of these beasts.

Thanks for looking,
Eric L.

In high school, my band had this model tuba. It is truly the ugliest bell fron curve design ever. The great thing about this horn was the first valve return spring. It's too bad that it was not lighter in design but for 1960s it was rocketry.

Hi Alex, not sure what you mean about the "bell front curve design". It's as good/better as a King or a Conn in my opinion, I've owned multiple examples of Reynolds, Kings and Conn bell front horns. So I'm not sure where you're coming from on that.

I would say it's generally bad form to crap on somebody else's for sale post, but that's just me. Most of the TubeNet geniuses think this model is just fine, for what it's worth.

This kind of stuff is why most of my sales happen on eBay where money changes hands and not so many opinions.

It returns the slide to its original position when you push or pull the slide.
