Some years ago a bass trombone was built with a horn flare. I don't remember the details but someone out there probably does. Obviously it wasn't something that caught on...

Larger diameter bass trombone bells have a nasty habit of ringing like a sousaphone bell once the metal gets work hardened from years of repairs.

It's become a recent fad in the trumpet world to have oversized bells. Maybe check their forums and see what they have to say about it.

I have a theory as to what it'll do but my opinion shouldn't matter.
