New To Me ACB-603 4V Piggy with a story

Post by Worth »

The recent sale of some horns has allowed me to acquire this wonderful ACB-603 Piggy 4V. Some minor cosmetic stuff here and there, but expected and that's not what it's all about anyways.

There's always a story associated with things, and this is no different. It arrived yesterday, and when getting acquainted with it and tuning the slides I noticed it was pretty stuffy sounding and quite difficult to tune. Somewhat concerned I may have purchased a dog, I kept at it for a while. After a bit I flipped it over to put it on it's bell and heard something. Gave it a few shakes and out popped a thick old dirty polishing sock that had been lodged somewhere in the main bugle. Obviously a world of difference after this, ran through some quintet pieces and OMG what a sound. I'm very excited to play her out.

Although this has a 4 digit SN, I've read back in Tubenet and realize that Cerveny SNs are a bit hard to decipher. The receiver says "Made in Czech" and I've posted a picture of the paddles and rotor linkages which I believe are original. I sent a query to Cerveny on their website for help in dating it, but would appreciate help from those in the know regarding approximate date. It seems a great match for my Blokepiece Imperial with a bit of teflon tape and projects like crazy. The 3V and 4V slides require a pretty decent pull as well. I now understand the following and am proud to join the ranks.

A new horn is always an exciting time!
If I ever hear back from Cerveny I'll post a mfg date for any interested others.
