Mouthpiece help?

Post by HashBrownJM »

Ok, here's my question. I currently play on a Conn Helleberg 120 Standard, with silver plating. I'm going to buy a new mouthpiece, and I'm torn between two mouthpiece brands: Griego, and another Conn Helleberg. The Conn Helleberg is a 120 Standard with gold plating ($107.00), and the Griego is a 325XD with Gold plating ($195.00). I'm going to be a junior in high school, yet this is only my second year playing the tuba, as I started on French Horn. Don't let that bit of information fool you, though. I'm already lead tuba player for the top band, and, as my private lesson teacher sometimes put it, "you sound like you started on it." Any other models that might be good for me would be appriciated. Thanks.

I am in need of some mouthpiece info as well. It's msotly just curiosity. I have a conn helleberg that's actually a school mouthpiece but was new in the box so i have been using it a lot lately. I am not sure how old it is. The Rim seems flatter than the newer ones....did conn just change the mp over time or what? Also it jsut says conn helleberg.....so does that mean that its a standard 120?

As far as you looking for a new mouthpiece, you can get the helleberg a few bucks cheaper at www.wwbw.com
