Which is better in your opinion:
A Mirafone/(phone) 191, or a Willson 3100?
Mirafone or Willson?
Re: Mirafone or Willson?
I have not played a 3100, but several people on TubeNet have mentioned that they don't provide a lot of feedback to the player. The opposite is true of the 191, it provides a lot of feedback.HashBrownJM wrote:Which is better in your opinion:

The Willson is bigger, but I'm not sure how much that matters. The Willson is 4 pistons + 1 rotor and the 191 is all rotor.
I like my 191 a lot, but I wouldn't refuse a Willson if someone wanted to give me one. As far as which is better -- I think that is probably up to each tubist.

They are two completely different types of tubas.
The Miraphone is a more traditional German tuba that has that certain tone color. Warm and buttery sound that responds like crazy. You won't find a better BBb tuba for the price.
The Willson is a different animal. It has a more CC tuba type of sound and a rocking low register to match. The sound is much brighter and thicker. This horn can wipe the floor with many of the 6/4 CC tubas I've heard, but they are pricey.

No one who tells you what you want to hear at someone else's detriment is acting in your best interest.
