Surprised no-one hs commented . Fabulous controlled playing, right out of the top drawer. Igler's wine is terrific. Not sure if it's in the USA.

With respect, I do not think that anyone needs to up any game, but that we see here clearly the difference between the contrabass and the 'bass' tuba and the difference that tessitura makes.

The greatest of great Gene Porkony plays an unutterably brilliant Bach flute partita on one of his discs on, I am sure, a CC. But because it is pretty high it rings out and sings more easily. Mr Olka is showing his life's work of diligent detailed practice by using the lower and more obtuse 'register'. I do think that it sounds far better as high as possible. I play (badly) the cello suites as written and the flute stuff so that the highest notes are not screamers but are up to say G4 etc.

John Fletcher highly recommended the cello pieces as excellent practice.

Actually I - hmmm - knew all along and was merely trying to assist the team's efforts in asking us to be kind one to the other - including ourselves perhaps - perhaps. Ok OK I misread the 'my game' as 'his game'.

As we are in contact, may I ask you a question? I remember meeting a student tubist 45 years ago on a train in UK with a name very similar to your own. He said it was Nordic. Unfortunately I did not write it down. He was a tall, fine-looking genius so I was wondering ... Were you ever over in the Motherland as a student?
