HI!

I friend of mine gave me a picture from the November 27th 1964 issue of Life magazine of a London Jazz musician, Ron Snyder, carrying a very large Tuba up a flight of stairs It was said at the time to be the largest in the world and was originally owned my John Phillip Sousa. I was wondering if
anyone knows what happend to that horn? I will try to download a picture but, in case I fail, any information is appreciated.

That looks like the subcontrabass CCC tuba made by Sander for the Sousa band. Also known as the Hoffnung tuba.

Dave Detwiler has some info here on it: https://tubapastor.blogspot.com/2019/05 ... tubas.html

That tuba is owned by a collector in Austin, Texas. And yes, it is the Sander/Hoffnung CCC. It lives in this custom cradle.
