Air and Bourree

I was wondering if anyone knew of where i could find a recording of air and bourre, preferably online. Also, roughly what tempo do people here play it at?

thank you very much! To my knowledge, the tempo of air is slower then bourree. What should I have the metronome set at for the final product for each movement?

I agree with Bloke about less than mm=80 for the BourÃ©e. It is a sprightly dance movement, and should be at a tempo for people to dance to. That means not too fast. Work on finding places to breath. Violinists have no such problem!

Regarding the Air, I think something under mm=60 is appropriate. This is really a chorale with a somber subject -- "Come Sweet Death" -- and would be sung slowly.

The late organist Virgil Fox made a specialty of playing that chorale. He made a big production of it, with an extremely slow tempo, and a different registration for each note! Ya hadda be there.

Harvey recorded the Air at quarter note = 42 (unbelievably slow), and the Bourree at 100, which is not as easy as he makes it sound.

In the last two measures of the Bouree, slow down JUST A LITTLE BIT. Slowing down too much is not accurate for the style, although it is tempting. It is also tempting to begin slowing down too early - don't. Wait until the last two measures. Be subtle, not obvious.
