I’ve bought this tuba last summer from Daniel Ridder to be used as a starter F tuba, but it can certainly be used for much more than that. I’ve used this to play the Barbara York Tuba Concerto and a couple light quintet/quartet pieces. It’s in great condition with your usual old tuba small dings that come with it. Everything is as is in the pictures and there is nothing that impacts playability. The S-linkages are also great but could need a slightly thicker oil to maintain your desire silence (I would use Hetman 13).
What makes it special isn’t just the branded beautiful sound, but some interesting work on it when it was manufactured. There are brass bow guards and a gold brass 5th valve. What surprises me even more is how evenly in tune it was top to bottom register… Lower end needing alternate fingerings of course. A little nice extra to add on is the patch I’ve rarely seen so far.
Tom McGrady, a huge Alexander enthusiast for those who may not know, play tested it, liked it, and appraised it for me.
The specifics:
Made around 1950s-1960s
5 valves (4+1)
